Florian Meinert's research project "Ultracold collisions of ionic impurities in bosonic quantum gases" has been approved for funding from the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung. The fellowship starts in April 2018. Meinert's research proposal aims at controlling single ions immersed in a Bose-Einstein condensate for investigating atom-ion collisions under conditions of ultra-low temperatures. The proposed approach is based on techniques established in our Rydberg team over the last years to create and probe single Rydberg atoms in dense and ultracold atomic ensembles.
