ERC Proof of Concept Grant for Tim Langen
Tim Langen has been awarded a Proof of Concept Grant by the European Research Council (ERC) for his research project "MiniAtomQ - Miniaturized Devices for Single-Atom Quantum Technologies”. For Langen, this is already the second award by the ERC, following an ERC Starting Grant in 2020.
The grant will enable Langen's research group to realize a new and fully integrated approach to the manipulation of single neutral atoms, which has the potential to transform the complex, room-sized and costly experiments currently used to manipulate these atoms in academic laboratories, into user-friendly, economical and robust devices.
"We are thrilled to receive this grant from the ERC," says Langen. "It will allow us to take our research to the next level and bring it closer to having a real-world impact."
The ERC Proof-of-Concept Grants are highly competitive and support early-stage research that has the potential to lead to commercial or societal impact. They are exclusively aimed at ERC grant holders to further develop a result from their ERC-funded frontier research towards real-world applications. Langen will thus explore the commercial potential of the ongoing ERC starting grant project NEWMAT, which focusses on the realization of new states of matter with laser-cooled dipolar molecules.
